Chitin & Chitosan factory MERON (INDIA) PVT. LTD., a newly promoted company is another addition in the MERON GROUP. This Company was set up to manufacture various natural bio-polymers like Chitin & Chitosan. These products were developed by the R & D Division of MERON GROUP. Chitin & Chitosan are the products of 21st century. The main raw material is prawn peelings and crab shells. Kochi, known as Queen of Arabian Sea, is blessed with maximum number of Sea Food processing units. The ready availability of prawn peelings is the best advantages this unit is enjoying for bringing cost effectiveness in the production. The other raw material needed are Hydrochloric acid and Caustic Soda Flakes. Both these products are readily available within a radius of about l5 kms from the location of the factory. Trial production was successfully conducted during the early part of the year. The products have been well accepted both in terms of quality and price in the export as well as domestic markets. The installed capacity is 120 Tons of Chitin and 24 Tons of Chitosan per annum. As regards Chitosan, Company will be introducing very soon new range of products to meet the specific demand for different applications.
